This bulbul papier mache box is No. 3 in our Blue Garden collection. A pair of crested bulbuls, painted in soft blue-grey with crisp white cheek patches, rests among cobalt blossoms and olive leaves.

The box is shaped from layered paper pulp (sakhtsazi), dried and smoothed, then painted freehand by our naqash with fine brushes. The dark ground is worked with real 24K gold strokes that shimmer as the box turns in the light, and the whole piece is sealed with a glossy lacquer.

At 3.6 × 3 inches and 2.5 inches tall, this bulbul papier mache box holds rings, earrings, studs, a pendant or small keepsakes, and makes a ready gift box for birthdays, weddings, Eid, Diwali, Christmas or Mother’s Day.
