Blue Garden Papier Mache Box No. 5 with Bulbul Duet – Hand-Painted in Kashmir
This small papier mache jewelry box is No. 5 in our Blue Garden collection. One crested bulbul swoops toward its mate perched below, in a lively garden of cobalt blossoms, olive leaves and bright green sprays.
The box is shaped from layered paper pulp (sakhtsazi), dried and smoothed, then painted freehand by our naqash with fine brushes. The dark ground is worked with real 24K gold strokes that shimmer as the box turns in the light, and the whole piece is sealed with a glossy lacquer.
At 3.6 × 3 inches and 2.5 inches tall, this small papier mache jewelry box holds rings, earrings, studs, a pendant or small keepsakes, and makes a ready gift box for birthdays, weddings, Eid, Diwali, Christmas or Mother’s Day.
