Gul-o-Bulbul

Gul-o-Bulbul means “the flower and the bulbul”. The pairing of blossom and songbird is one of the best-loved themes in Persian and Kashmiri poetry and art, and on papier mâché the naqash paints bulbuls and other garden birds perched, feeding or in flight among peonies, roses and flowering branches.

Each bird is painted individually, so even boxes from the same series differ in pose, colour and number of birds. This design is the heart of our small jewellery boxes, including the 24K gold-stroke Blue Garden and Emerald Garden series. Browse the Birds of Paradise collection for more bird designs.
