Carpet design

Carpet designs borrow from the patterns of Kashmiri hand-knotted carpets: a central medallion, corner motifs and layered borders, all painted in balanced, symmetrical detail. The effect is formal and rich, like a miniature carpet on the lid of a box.

Pieces in this design include octagonal decorative boxes and jewellery boxes. Each one is painted freehand in Srinagar and finished with lacquer.
