Paisley (Badam)

Badam means almond, and the badam is the teardrop shape the rest of the world calls paisley. It is the motif most closely linked with Kashmir, famous on pashmina shawls long before it appeared on papier mâché, and it is also the symbol in the Mughal Arts logo.

On papier mâché the badam is painted large and filled with tiny flowers and vines, or repeated in rows across a surface. Our paisley pieces include hand-painted paisley art panels, trays and jewellery boxes.
