Chinar

The chinar is the great plane tree of Kashmir, planted across the Mughal gardens of the valley, and its broad, pointed leaf has become a symbol of Kashmir itself. In autumn the leaves turn red, orange and gold, and those colours carry straight into the papier mâché design.

Chinar pieces use the leaf as a repeating pattern or as a bold central motif, painted freehand and finished with lacquer. Here you will find chinar wall plates, vases, jewellery and ring boxes, trays and elephants. A chinar piece makes a natural gift from Kashmir.
