This Kashmiri papier-mâché panel is built up flower by flower. Our artisans in Srinagar model each petal in papier-mâché so it rises from the wooden base, then paint every bloom by hand with fine brushes. The result is a relief you can feel: a concentric medallion of silver and gold petal bands, a jewel-like star of blossoms at its heart, a blossom tree on a turquoise field, and golden floral corners, all held by a deep Kashmiri-red border scattered with turquoise accents.

Under the glossy lacquer finish the raised work catches the light, so the panel changes through the day: soft in morning light, glowing under evening lamps.
